Karen Ward is a member of the APA’s Education team. In her position as Director of Payroll Training for the American Payroll Association she has the opportunity to develop, present, and review most of APA training courses, along with developing and mentoring future speakers for APA’s National Speakers Bureau.
Karen began her payroll career as a time keeper/recorded over two decades ago in Houston, Texas and advanced in various positions up to Manager, with exposure to numerous industries including manufacturing, non‐profit, oil & gas, construction, local government and transportation. Past employers include Shell Oil Company, City of Houston‐Police Department, and most recently Southwest Airlines Co in Dallas, Texas.
Upon relocating to the Dallas area in 2009 she immediately became active with the Dallas Chapter. Because of her passion for payroll and her “pay‐it‐forward” attitude regarding payroll education, Karen received the Dallas Chapter APA Special Recognition award in 2012. Due to her extensive knowledge and experience in all aspects of payroll, her participation in the teacher mentoring sessions as well as FPC/CPP Certification classes, she received the Payroll Professional of the Year‐Dallas Chapter 2015.
As member of the American Payroll Association's National Speakers Bureau for over five years, Karen has been able share her passion at numerous statewide conferences, APA seminars and abroad in Canada. Being a member of the Education Team, she will continue to share that passion on a broader scale for years to come.
